Rec+ play is more competitive and requires more commitment from players. Rec+ games typically occur on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) and require travel to teams in the surrounding area.
Rec+ participants are accepted into the program via a tryout process and are extended an offer to play. Rec+ is available for the following age groups: U10, U12, and U14.
Registration for the Rec+ tryout is free. If selected for the team you will receive an acceptance email and be required to pay the Rec+ fee at that time.
U14
Practice days for U14 are at the discretion of the coach.
U10 & U12U10 & U12 Rec+ teams typically practice on Monday/Wednesday. Rec+ players must also play on a Rec team.
Rec+
The Rec+ Program is an advanced recreational program that provides players an environment to develop and hone their skills at a more competitive level. Rec+ strives to teach a greater understanding of the game of soccer, improve technical development, and to instill self-confidence in players who demonstrate the potential for development. This is accomplished through advanced skills training by experienced volunteer coaches and more competitive game play against local clubs.
Positive Play
Positive attitudes and conduct are the core of the Rec+ program. Coaches, parents, spectators, and players should maintain a positive environment in their communication and attitudes as we build a positive team and club culture.
Tryouts
Rec+ play requires acceptance based on a tryout or evaluation. Tryouts are held before the fall season. Players may also be added during the season by the Rec+ coaches through a skill evaluation. Rec+ players returning for the Spring season have Player Returning rights and do not need to tryout again. New players will need an evaluation prior to acceptance on the Spring Rec+ team.
Recreation Participation
When there are insufficient player numbers in the Recreation program, players enrolled in the Rec+ program will also be required to participate on a Recreation team. Recreation games and practices are on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings throughout the season.
Team Composition
Teams will be composed of players that successfully complete a tryout or coach evaluation. Player positions are determined by the coach.
Practices
Practice schedules for Rec+ are determined by the coach. Rec+ teams typically practice twice a week. This is in addition to the Recreation Tuesday/Thursday practices. Players are expected to attend regular practices
Games
Games are typically played on Saturdays at the fields of local leagues and at Dotson Park. Games may also be scheduled for Sundays and week nights. Opposition will vary from season to season based on what teams are available from surrounding leagues.
Playing Time
As an advanced recreation program, equal playing time for players is not required. Playing time is at the discretion of the coach, with minimum playing time requirements for regular play. Minimum playing time gives each player an opportunity to improve and implement practiced skills in a game environment. Coaches are encouraged to use apply positive reinforcement by expanding on the minimum for players that show improvement.
Players must meet team requirements for minimum playing time to apply. Team requirements will be applied consistently by coaches for all players. Team requirements include:
Individual team requirements and expectations will be established by the coach and communicated to the team at the beginning of the season. Compliance to these requirements is determined by the coach. Players will be warned of compliance problems and given an opportunity to rectify these issues before playing time is impacted. Any adjustments to minimum playing time will be clearly communicated to the player prior to the impacted game.
Minimum playing time is not required for tournament play.
There are two standards for minimum playing based on whether the age group has a Recreation option. This is to ensure all players are given an ample opportunity to participate in game situations. These minimum time standards apply for all age groups.
Minimum playing times
Age groups with a Recreation team: 5 minutes/half
Age groups without a Recreation time: 10 minutes/half
Player Behavior
Rec+ players have a responsibility to ensure their conduct is respectful and promotes a positive playing and learning environment . Behavior that is disruptive, disrespectful, or detrimental to the team in any way will be addressed by the coach. Continued unacceptable behavior will be reported to the WCYSA board for action. Extreme cases of unacceptable behavior are detrimental to the team and program, and may result in the dismissal of the player from the team. This action would be taken only with the approval of the coach and the WCYSA board and in accordance with the WCYSA Rules and Discipline Process.
